4 Reasons to Consider Pocket Reduction Surgery

Pocket reduction surgery is a procedure used to gain access to the tooth roots in order to remove tartar and bacteria. Our mouths contain dozens of various bacteria, and those found in plaque produce acids that can lead to demineralization of the surface of the teeth, and this can ultimately lead to gum disease.

Pocket reduction surgery has been proven effective at reducing bacteria, decreasing inflammation, and saving your teeth, and there are several reasons to consider this procedure.

Stopping Bone Loss

Oral bacteria can induce an inflammatory response that may cause the body to destroy your jawbone. When the jawbone becomes affected by gum disease, the teeth will lose their anchor and become loose, resulting in tooth loss.

Reducing the Spread of Bacteria

Oral bacteria are connected to conditions like heart disease, stroke, and diabetes, among others. This is because oral bacteria can enter the bloodstream and travel to other parts of the body. Pocket reduction surgery will decrease the amount of oral bacteria, which could reduce the risk of developing a secondary infection.

Easier Cleaning
When the pockets of your gums become deep, it will be difficult to clean them, as your toothbrush won't be able to access the bottom of the pocket. A pocket reduction procedure will help to correct this problem, and better oral care will reduce the chance of suffering from further gum infections.

Improve the Appearance of Your Smile
A mouth that has been affected by gum disease is unattractive, with red, swollen gums that pull away from the teeth. Other problems like rotting teeth, ridge indentations, and brown gums are also possible. Gum reduction surgery stops the progression of periodontal disease and will improve the appearance of your smile.
