Are you thinking about the option of dental implants to replace broken or missing teeth from your mouth? Dental implants are by far the most permanent and prominent option for replacing your worn out teeth, but you're probably wondering about the efficacy of the procedure itself and whether the dental implants will be painful to install in your gums.
This is a common fear encountered by most patients before dental implants are installed. However, there are a number of patients that believe very little to no discomfort is felt during or after the procedure if proper care is taken.
Dental Implants Procedure
Dental implants do take time to implement. The process itself starts with a first incision that is made in your gums. Once the first incision is made, a metal post implant is screwed to your jawbone using a screen for optimal performance. This acts as a way to replace your tooth root. Once the implant is placed and installed, your gums are closed for a period of 3 to 6 months to give the implant time to heel. This gives your jawbone the time needed to coalesce with the implant. Once the implant heals, an extension of the metal post is attached to your teeth for restoration.
Pain during the Procedure
A local anesthetic is commonly used during the implant procedure. Patients stay awake, but the local anesthesia ensures that they don't feel a think. You can also go for a sedative option, if being awake during the surgery does give you the creeps. Once the anesthesia wears off, you will face a slight discomfort in your gums for a few days, but it isn't much to worry about. The pain is manageable and isn't daunting by any means.
